In the semi final on Wednesday 26 November the team beat Enniscorthy (County Wexford, Ireland) 3 1/2 - 1 1/2. The El Rompido course (Spain) played very tough on both days, but on the semi final day the wind was extremely strong and very fast greens, but the girls came through. A very big thank you to Finola, our team captain, who has been organising the team from very early in the year to getting us to Spain. It has been a long year making sure Sundridge Park having the best team available for each match. The caddies were as usual fantastic and have played an important part in getting the team to win. Most of the caddies have been with the team from the start of the competition. Many thanks to Sharon Brooks, Ingrid Long, Dewanne Puddick, Edna Barker and Pat Purser.
A lot of thanks to all SPGC supporters including Doug Stoker, the club captain, who were with the team in Spain. All players and supporters were in red and there was a sea of red to be seen on the course. The 2008 Mail on Sunday competition started with over 1,500 ladies teams. The Sundridge Park team came through 8 regional qualifying rounds to reach the UK finals in Manchester in September where they beat Wychwood Park, Cheshire 5 - O. |
